How Many Units Does an Oilfield Crew Need?
Oilfield sites are different from normal job sites. Crews often work 12-hour shifts. Some sites run day and night. That means units get used a lot more.
Here is a simple way to plan:
- Start with 1 unit for every 10 workers. Count everyone on site, not just one shift.
- For 24-hour work, add more. Either add units or add service visits.
- Add a hand wash station. One station for every few units works well.
- Frac sites need more. They can have lots of crews, trucks and drivers at once.

Summer heat. Pads get very hot in July and August. There is often no shade at all. Heat makes smells worse, so we may suggest more cleanings in the summer.
Wind and dust. Spring winds can top 40 miles per hour on open land. We stake units down. We try to face doors away from the wind.
Cold snaps. West Texas does not freeze often. But when it does, it can be bad. Many people here still remember the big freeze in February 2021. If a freeze is coming, we can add salt to tanks so they do not freeze solid.
